Tango Tour
to Buenos Aires
When: September 12-22, 2026
Led by Helene Eriksen and Lucas A Secas

Introduction
Helene & Lucas are excited to welcome you to Buenos Aires the birthplace of Tango, a dance now popular throughout the world. Tango in Buenos Aires is a rich and diverse phenomenon with so much to choose from. Only on Saturday, for example, there could be 25-30 milongas (dance events) to choose from. They have put together a schedule for you with some of their favorite regular events that will give you a wide overview of the dance life in this city and show you the flavor of its different neighborhoods. Welcome to Buenos Aires!
Features
We will use a small fleet of taxis to allow for more flexibility. Included are transfers to and from the airport.
We will have “taxi dancers” to dance with us at all the milongas (dance events). This ensures that you get to dance as much as you want to and that you can continue putting the things you have learned into practice on the dance floor.
The tour will focus on several things:
1) The waves of immigration that shaped the city and tango. Each immigrant group has their cultural centers, food, monuments, streets, neighborhoods etc in the city.
2) A historical perspective focused on immigration but also including important periods of Argentine history such as the dictatorship.
3) A tango “song of the day” will highlight the neighborhood we will visit or the event that we will participate in each day.
4) We focus on traditional social milonga (milonga is the dance event) rather than show tango (escenario). Tango is considered the urban “folkdance” or popular dance of the Rio Platense region. In contrast to other touristic tango tours we will visit milongas where people dance for enjoyment rather than focus on big spectacular shows. Although we will visit one tango show and see some performances embedded in milongas, we will focus on the social form both in our classes and in the events we visit.
